Le site de l'ancienne Babylone, rebaptisée "Camp Alpha" par les États-Unis, a été transformé durant la guerre du Golf en camp militaire. Le site a été littéralement enfoui sous le bitume pour construire des pistes d'atterrissage et divers infrastructures militaires, la terre creusée et deplacée pour remplir des sacs. Cet événement a inspiré Sandbagwal, qui évoque cette transformation du site, et ce grand retournement de terre. Le déplacement est au cœur de l'œuvre ; de la brique au sac, l'œuvre active, dans son immobilité de mur, un double mouvement. La figure du lion en marche se voit alors investi d'un nouveau sens.

The Ancient Babylon wonder, renamed "Camp Alpha" by the USA, was turned into a military camp as the Gulf War was waging on. The site was literally buried under the bitumen to build airstrips and various military facilities, the ground dug out, upended, bagged up and displaced. This event inspired Sandbagwal, which evokes the site transformation , and a great ground upheaval. Displacement is at the heart of the work; from the brick to the bag, the artwork induces a double movement, caught up in its wall stillness. Then, the figure of the walking lion is endowed with new meaning.
